Ida Ali on how to pack, party and pull off a successful bachelorette trip

From Croatia to Phuket, the filmmaker has packed her bags (and fashion tape) enough times to know what makes or breaks a she-cation

There are holidays you plan with family, trips you take with a partner, and then there are girls’ trips—arguably the most iconic genre of travel. Equal parts chaos and catharsis, a girls’ trip is where the group chat finally makes it out of the digital realm, the itinerary is half-hearted at best, and the memories involve as much laughter over inside jokes as they do sequins, swimsuits, and cocktails.

And when that girls’ trip doubles up as a bachelorette? There’s no rulebook here, except maybe packing extra fashion tape, stashing a bottle of champagne in your carry-on, and letting the night (or several) play out in stories that will be retold long after the wedding.

To kickstart our new ‘OOO with the girls’ series, we turned to filmmaker Ida Ali who’s already clocked Europe, Phuket, New York, and Hawaii on her girl-gang passport. Known for her unapologetically girly, sometimes risqué style and her no-nonsense travel hacks, Ida knows exactly what it takes to make a girls’ trip memorable (and survivable).

From her favourite OOTDs to her fail-safe bachelorette advice, she’s spilling it all; so consider this your cheeky, unfiltered, and fabulous guide to bachelorettes and beyond.

Passport stamps: Four. Around Europe, Phuket, New York, and Hawaii.

Vibe check: Girly, super dressed up and sometimes risqué since it’s all just girls around.

Baggage confessions: Loads of accessories, make-up, and cute outfits. Also, whatever the cool new camera is for capturing aesthetic pics. Not to forget fashion tape and adhesive covers—lifesavers.

Dress code 101: Super dressy when you go out, super comfy when you come back to the hotel or Airbnb. Oh, and definitely carry comfy heels.

Outfit hall of fame: Usually something beachy (for the beach trips of course). My favourites are a nude-coloured outfit I layered over a bikini in Croatia, and a black summer away long dress I wore in Phuket.

Non-negotiable advice: Don’t stress over having to do everything on the itinerary. Keep some time just to chill and talk with the girls. Don’t be in a rush.

The bach bible:

  • Be realistic about the budget.
  • Make sure every member is on board with the plan and okay with the hotel and other bookings.
  • Plan something extra special for the bride. For example, when I went on a bachelorette, we decorated the house with the bride’s pictures with all of us.
  • Book restaurants and tables at clubs in advance.
  • Go grocery shopping for snacks the day you land. You WILL need it.
  • Pack clothes in terms of outfits and carry some extra pairs.

Future flights: I’m not sure when, but hopefully soon—maybe Bali or somewhere calm with enough time dedicated to being in the sun.
