Our August book pick was and is a certified sensation on BookTok, BookTube, and Bookstagram and honestly deserves every bit of the spotlight. It is, of course, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. It is a warm, quirky, and quietly profound story starring a grieving woman, a drifter trying to find his place, and a gloriously snarky octopus. Personally, I think this is the perfect novel if you’ve been in a bit of a reading slump. It’s charming, uplifting, and the kind of book you’ll want to pass along with a “trust me on this”. Bonus points: Netflix is adapting it, so read it now before Marcellus swims onto your screen.

Plus, we got author Shelby Van Pelt and content creator Ahilya Bamroo to chat with us about what makes this story feel like a warm hug, why Lewis Pullman is the best ever, and if an octopus can actually operate a copy machine. Click here to watch the full video and join our Instagram channel to discuss our book of the month as we read it.
