Red carpet fashion is usually very prescriptive, but last night at the Emmys, a number of bold statements and unexpected fashion moments stood out. There was Megan Stalter (of Hacks and Too Much), who pulled up in a white Hanes T-shirt and Levi’s with a bag with a DIY sticker that read ‘CEASE FIRE!’—a refreshingly political and casual stance in a sea of couture. Talk about making a statement.

Stalter wasn’t alone. Several others used their looks to advocate for the Palestinian cause: F1: The Movie star Javier Bardem wore a keffiyeh, while The White Lotus’s Aimee Lou Wood, Abbott Elementary’s Chris Perfetti, and Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder (who took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) all wore the red Artists4Ceasefire pin.

If the protest statements were grounded, the theatrics went full throttle when Joella—a fan favourite from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15—rocked up in a full Labubu costume, complete with a playful Chinese takeout novelty bag, adding a surreal twist to the evening.

Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega, who was nominated for Wednesday, arrived in a standout look from Sarah Burton’s debut collection for Givenchy—a crystal- and pearl-encrusted naked blouse paired with a slinky black skirt.
