We caught up with Yash Agarwal, partner and creative director, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas to talk archival comebacks, six-month assembly timelines, and what you can expect to see at The Wedding Collective.
The collection is inspired by the “Women of the Moonlight Court”. Who are these women?
The “Women of the Moonlight Court” is our tribute to the extraordinary women artisans who have preserved India's rich craft traditions across generations. They are the makers behind the jewellery, textiles, embroidery, and embellishment techniques that have flourished in different craft clusters across the country.
The line is a mix of archival and new pieces. How did you go about selecting archival designs to be reimagined?
We began by looking at age-old techniques and historic design philosophies that have always been part of our heritage. Rather than simply recreating vintage pieces, we reimagined them through a contemporary lens. The balance between history and modernity was central to our creative process.
What's one of the standout pieces from the collection?
One of the most extraordinary creations features a rare 119-carat Burmese spinel. It's an exceptional gemstone that inspired the entire design around it. The piece reflects our philosophy of allowing a rare stone to dictate the narrative, resulting in a jewel that is both historically inspired and completely one of a kind.
