You can bet Shweta Kapur knows a thing or two about dressing for weddings. The founder and creative director of 431-88 has built a reputation for making occasionwear feel effortless. Her label’s pre-draped saris are of course, a cult favourite for those who want to create maximum impact with minimum fuss. And last year, she even added bridalwear to the line-up, exactly a year after becoming a bride herself. Below, she talks us through how she approaches dressing during wedding season:

Wed Count: “Too many to count, but this year, I’ve attended three weddings till now!”

Wedding guest style: “Anything that is easy to dance in and easy to dress up. I love a fair bit of colour blocking. I’ll either colour block my outfit or use jewellery and bags to add some contrast.”

Favourite designers: “I loved Delhi Vintage Co’s jackets last year. This year I’m eyeing some Mayyur Girotra, and of course, 431-88 will always be my forever go-to for saris.”

Dealing with dress codes: “I play around with it, but I tweak it to my personal sensibility. I love going classic with my clothes and then adding a quirky, fun accessory that nods to the theme”

Destination wedding hack: “I always plan looks in advance, complete with shoes, a bag, and jewellery. I also carry an afterparty look which is usually planned around sneakers and a comfy jacket, and I pack each look in a separate packing cube so it’s easy to take out when you reach your destination.”

Won’t leave home without: “A mini steam iron (Phillips is the best) since hotels take forever and it’s best to have one just in case. My Dyson for last-minute touch-ups, a hand fan from Pubumésu, a portable charger, and my Polaroid camera for cute wedding and holiday pictures.”

Minaudière or potli? “Depends on the look, but I like quirky bags that are a conversation starter.”

Flats or heels? “Team heels always!"

When in doubt… “Wear white with layers of jewellery.”

Next wedding: “In Bangkok, this August.”
