It’s no surprise that Trishala Kamath’s blouse game is an enviable one. The Mumbai- and Hyderabad-based content creator, PR professional and co-founder of The Secret Supper Club has a penchant for everything from gold-embroidered sleeves and sweetheart necklines to corseted silhouettes, deep Vs and embellished jackets. Her world is a mix of fashion, food, travel and lifestyle, so naturally, weddings bring all her favourite things together: beautiful clothes, celebrations, good company and, most importantly, an excuse to dress up. With her own wedding on the horizon next year, she’s got plenty to say about dressing for wedding season:

Wed count: I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to plan a wedding wardrobe! Between weddings in Mumbai, Hyderabad and celebrations that take you out of the country, there’s always something on the calendar.

Wedding guest style: I love switching things up! I think the beauty of Indian wear is that there’s so much to experiment with, whether it’s a beautiful sari, a lehenga, a contemporary silhouette or a statement blouse. I usually start with the occasion and the vibe of the wedding and then build the look around that. I’m a big believer in the little details: jewellery, a great blouse, the right hair and makeup and the bag, because they can completely transform an outfit. I also try not to repeat the same kind of look back-to-back.

Favourite designers: I’m always drawn to designers who have a strong sense of craftsmanship and detail. I love Anamika Khanna, Ridhi Mehra, Rahul Mishra and so much more! For weddings Raw Mango is a favourite for its beautiful textiles and timeless aesthetic. I’m always open to discovering new designers that I find on Instagram! They’re doing so many fun things now and I love exploring!

Dealing with dress codes: If someone has put thought into a theme or dress code, I think it’s only fair to have fun with it and respect it. Clearly the bride has a vision, so help her get that right! I love when guests participate because it adds to the overall atmosphere of the celebration. That said, I like interpreting a theme in my own way rather than taking it too literally.

Destination wedding hacks: Plan every outfit from head to toe before you pack. I put together the outfit, jewellery, shoes, bag and even the accessories for each event, and keep them grouped together so I’m not scrambling at the last minute. I also try to steam outfits before packing where possible, and carry a few versatile pieces that can be styled differently. Also, always keep one extra outfit option because Indian wedding schedules have a way of changing--or if you’re clumsy like me, it’s always better to pack an extra!

Won’t leave home without: A mini perfume, sunglasses, sunscreen, lipstick, my hand sanitizer, compact powder and my gloss are non-negotiable. For destination weddings, I also carry a portable charger and a hand fan, especially for outdoor functions. And of course, comfortable shoes for when the dancing goes on longer than expected!

Bring a bag or go hands-free? I love a beautiful mini bag or a statement potli that complements the outfit. Weddings are one of those occasions where your bag can be part of the look, so I like choosing something that adds to the overall styling. But I’m also practical, so it needs to fit my phone, lipstick, cards, a little perfume and a couple of emergency essentials. For functions where I know I’ll be dancing all night, a compact bag with a secure closure is always a good idea.

Flats or heels? I’m team heels for the photographs, but team flats for the dance floor. I love a beautiful heel that complements the outfit, but if I know it’s going to be a long night, I’ll always have a comfortable backup. A low block heel or a dressy embellished flat is ideal when you want to look put together without sacrificing the ability to dance.

When in doubt: Wear a sari, add great jewellery and let the details do the talking. You can never really go wrong with a beautifully draped sari and a well-thought-out accessory. Most importantly, wear something you feel confident and comfortable in because that always shows.

Next wedding: My own wedding celebrations are coming up in Hyderabad in the first half 2027, so that’s definitely the biggest celebration on my calendar right now. I’m currently balancing the excitement of being a wedding guest with the reality of discovering just how much goes into planning a wedding and making those two days special!
