Over the past week, the object that’s had everyone in a tizzy is a 3D-knit pouch that comes in eight shades and looks a bit like a muffler a five-year-old would wear: the iPhone Pocket. A collaboration between Apple and Issey Miyake, the Japanese brand best known for its Pleats Please line that debuted in 1994, the iPhone Pocket is meant to carry your iPhone (all models) and the paraphernalia you tend to stuff in your own pocket. You can use it as a bag charm, sling it across your body, or hold it in your hand. It’s covetable in its simplicity, an aesthetic that’s common to both brands; that Apple founder Steve Jobs was known for his uniform of black Issey Miyake turtlenecks makes this somewhat of a full-circle moment for both. Another accessory that’s caused a stir—and not in a good way—are Miranda Priestly’s red Valentino ‘Rockstud’ pumps from the recently dropped teaser of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (“diabolical” seems to be a popular opinion). Is it a moment 15 years too late or is pointing to a retro revival like all the Coach goods the DWP2 set has been throwing up? We need more context.
