The Grammys have never been the place for a simple red-carpet gown. And this year was no different, as the new guard of talent was eager to carve out their own distinct identity on music’s biggest night. Whether it was Chappell Roan’s pierced nipple and tattoo dress by Mugler, new artist winner Olivia Dean in black-and-white Chanel by Matthieu Blazy, or Lola Young in an army-green Vivienne Westwood sweatsuit, these chart-toppers were ready to prove that music-industry folks know how to have fun with fashion. The boys, in particular, really flexed their styling chops. Bad Bunny wore a first-of-its-kind Schiaparelli corset tuxedo, and Kendrick Lamar (who became the most decorated rapper after winning his 27th Grammy) opted for a penguin suit from none other than Chanel, another first. Even Harry Styles, who was presenting an award, pulled a coup wearing a Bar jacket from Jonathan Anderson’s first menswear collection for Dior and a pair of jade-green ballet flats.
