It’s day three of December, the air feels straight out of a gothic novel, and I’m indoors clutching my air purifier like it’s my winter boyfriend, sipping hot chocolate and leaning fully into my annual holiday binge fest. Every evening this week I’ve been rewarding myself with one extremely seasonal movie, and it’s been glorious.
I started with A Very Jonas Christmas because this is peak comfort viewing for those of us who once had very intense Jonas Brother phases. Is it great cinema? Absolutely not. Is it perfect while I wrestle with my fairy lights and assemble my tree? Yes. Then came Champagne Problems, which is basically engineered in a Hallmark laboratory. Minka Kelly plays an overworked exec who is shipped off to France to acquire a tiny champagne brand before Christmas and naturally ends up falling for the founder’s charming son after one very romcom night out in Paris. It’s predictable, bubbly, and exactly the kind of nonsense my December brain craves. For days when I didn’t want something that was all mistletoe and meet-cutes there was Jingle Bell Heist, where two disgruntled employees at a posh London department store decide to team up and rob the place on Christmas Eve. And, of course, I topped it all off with The Holiday, because no Christmas watchlist is complete without it.
