Tomorrow is October, which means we are officially entering fall. Well, sort of. Since we don’t really get fall in India, most of us just call this Gilmore Girls season, when the urge to put on a Stars Hollow rerun becomes almost seasonal. But this year, you might actually have to make room in your watchlist for something else too.
Because the month is stacked with books we already have thoughts about. First up is East of Eden, which drops on Netflix tomorrow. John Steinbeck’s sweeping family saga gets the seven-episode treatment, with Florence Pugh taking on the role of Cathy Ames. I’ve just finished the book, so I’m particularly curious to see how this one translates to screen. Then there’s Verity, Colleen Hoover’s thriller that even people who don’t exactly consider themselves CoHo fans tend to tolerate; the film adaptation stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. Stephen King’s Carrie is getting another go, this time as a series starring Summer H Howell, while Sense and Sensibility gets a new big-screen adaptation, with Daisy Edgar-Jones stepping into Austen territory. And rounding out the month is Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun, directed by Taika Waititi and starring Jenna Ortega.
So, yes, keep the Gilmore Girls reruns going, but there’s plenty else to add to the rotation. With something new dropping almost every week, October might just be the perfect month to finally read the books you’ve been saving for later.
