Let’s be real: Diwali—followed by the several ongoing festivals—is the OG cheat week. Between your nani force-feeding kaju katlis, WhatsApp groups exploding with food pics, and every party turning into a food coma situation, your body is basically filing complaints. But here’s the tea (literally): detoxing post-Diwali doesn’t have to feel like punishment. Celebrity nutritionist and founder of SelfCare, Suman Agarwal, drops the ultimate guide to help you feel light.

As she puts it, “The idea is not deprivation. It’s about eating smarter so your body resets and your energy comes back.” Ready? Let’s dive in.

Start your morning with a glow tea

Forget green juice fads — Agarwal swears by her anti-inflammatory detox tea. It’s warm, it’s soothing, and it’s basically your system’s apology letter to itself.

How to make it:

  • Boil 2 cups of water
  • Add ½ tsp grated ginger + 1 tsp grated haldi (turmeric)
  • Strain, then add lemon juice + a drizzle of honey (post-boil, never during) Sip it slow. Your gut will thank you.

Breakfast that loves you back

“Your breakfast sets the tone for the day — keep it light and nourishing,” says Agarwal.

If you want carbs:

  • Poha or upma with curd
  • Overnight oats with berries

If you’re going low-carb:

  • Eggs + fruit
  • Sprouts + fruit
  • Greek yoghurt + fruit

Basically, keep it simple, not Instagram-performance-art.

Mid-morning = Hydration station

Swap out the soda for coconut water. Then, level up with Suman’s detox water (cucumber + mint + lemon in plain water).

Light lunch, heavy on balance

This is where carbs come in, so don’t ghost them yet. Lunch should have carbs, protein, and fibre.

Options:

  • Khichdi + buttermilk (comfort food but guilt-free)
  • Curd rice + salad
  • Chicken soup + noodles

Snack smart

Ditch the Diwali leftovers. Grab a fistful of almonds, walnuts, or cashews — add a cup of fennel or cranberry tea for that digestive flex.

Go carb-free dinner time

Evenings are for protein power, not carb crashes. Agarwal says, “Cutting carbs at dinner helps your body detox overnight.”

Choose from the following:

  • Grilled chicken + stir-fry veggies
  • Grilled paneer + stir-fry veggies
  • Moong chilla with veggies
  • Egg omelette with veggies
  • Steamed fish with veggies
  • Or, go light with Greek yoghurt + fruit

Hydrate like a pro

8–10 glasses of water. That’s it. No skipping. Hydration is the real skincare hack.

Sleep = The OG detox

Forget expensive cleanses — your body literally resets at night. “Deep sleep is when your body detoxifies itself,” Agarwal reminds us. Translation: Netflix can wait.

Bonus: Detox water recipe

Add cucumber + mint + lemon to your regular water and keep sipping through the day. Consider it your spa-in-a-bottle energy.

That said, this isn’t about punishing yourself for the mithai overload. It’s about balance. As Agarwal puts it, “Post-Diwali detoxing is simply hitting refresh — not hitting delete.” And honestly, that’s the reset we all need.
