Chanel’s newest venture, Nevold (a portmanteau of ‘never’ and ‘old’—très cryptic), was announced this morning. According to reports, it’s a B2B hub focused on circular solutions for textile offcuts, unused fabrics, and unsold or old products. “It’s not about Chanel recovering her waste to do Chanel. It’s Chanel recovering waste from Chanel and from whoever on the market who [is] ready to sell us the waste to recreate a new kind of materials,” Bruno Pavlosky, president of fashion at Chanel, told BoF.
Meanwhile, Jane Birkin’s actual Birkin—yes, the one from 1984—is going up for auction at Sotheby’s. There’s no stickers or beads, but it does come with a nail clipper she once dangled off the handle as a bag charm, plus her initials, JB, embossed on the front. Sotheby’s hasn’t listed an estimate but think Diana’s black-sheep jumper levels—that one sold for over $1 million in 2023.
