This weekend was truly chock-full of excitement. If you are an F1 or cricket fan, the reasons are obvious, but if your spectator sport is the catwalk, there were some serious big hitters on the fashion week schedule too. From Pierpaolo Piccioli’s second show at Balenciaga to Michael Rider for Celine and Sarah Burton at Givenchy, we’ve got a good understanding of what our winter wardrobe will look like. Some elements that united them all? An emphasis on precision tailoring via an elegant coat or a perfect suit jacket. The return of the peplum hem, which we also saw plenty of at Dior last week. Hemlines are shorter than ever as evidenced by the leather biker shorts at Hermès and the abundance of miniskirts at Alexander McQueen. And finally, the enduring supremacy of the statement shoe—whether it was the foldable ballet flat at Balenciaga or the brocade-covered boots at Givenchy. Is it too soon to want winter to be here already?
