Fashion junkies, have you discovered MaisonMargiela/folders yet? It’s the brand’s internal Dropbox that’s been opened up to the public to mark a series of exhibitions that will be hosted in China over the course of this month. The Dropbox holds a deep dive into the brand archives, focusing on the evolution of four central house codes—their couture line; the recurring use of masks; Tabi, the iconic split-toe shoe; and Bianchetto, the white overpaint technique that’s a core part of Margiela’s creative language. There are images of the red footprints left behind by the first pair of Tabis that the Belgian designer showed for spring/summer 1989, the famous invisible Tabi from 1996, bejewelled crystal masks from 2012, and much, much more. If you’re someone who loves building mood boards, are obsessed with the idea of trousers made from the belts of leather trench coats (2007), or simply want all the details about the brand’s show last week where the models looked like porcelain dolls, this is the rabbit hole you need to get into right now. Check it out here. PS: You can thank me later by reading The Nod’s most exciting stories for the week.
