Salone del Mobile in Milan has just wrapped, and someone said, “I just can’t believe all these random influencers are going. It used to be so niche.” Well, so were fashion weeks at one point but here we are!
Onto fashionable things from today’s great designers: at Chloé, Chemena Kamali unveiled a re-edition of the Tomato Chair, originally designed by Christian Adam in 1970. It instantly reminded me of Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe tomato bag. Dior presented some beautiful lamps inspired by the shape of Dior’s Corrole skirt created in collaboration with Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance. The lamps featured pleats and drapes in mouth-blown Murano glass, obviously—and were displayed in an equally gorgeous raffia garden.
Gucci did a tapestry-inspired exhibition titled ‘Gucci Memoria’ that celebrated the various eras of the brand’s 105-year history. Elsewhere, Gucci vending machines dispensed soda cans named after Demna’s ‘La Famiglia’, the series of Gucci archetypes he created for his first collection. The Nod’s editor Megha Mahindru even brought me back a 150ml can of green apple coffee soda titled ‘Mega Pesantone’ (Italian for “massive peasant”). Insult or not—I’ll take it.
But the highlight for me—sitting 6000 kms away—was Jil Sander’s Reference Library, which invited 60 tastemakers to choose one favourite book. Guests were given a pair of white gloves to flip through each tome. Delightful! What book would you recommend? While you think about it, below, things you should read on The Nod.
