If you haven’t read The Nod Book Club’s January pick: ‘The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny’ by Kiran Desai, here’s your sign. We’re hosting our first IRL event with actor Sonam Kapoor and author Kiran Desai (in-person!!) to discuss the book. Join The Nod’s Book Club channel for a chance to attend.

Here’s a little about the book: Spanning vast geographies from Delhi’s Panchsheel Park to New York’s Jackson Heights, this tale of diaspora and displacement follows the lives of aspiring writer Sonia Shah and journalist Sunny Bhatia as they navigate the immigrant experience, strained family ties, relationship struggles, parental expectations, and their own internal battles.

The Booker nominated tome (it’s almost 700 pages!) is Desai’s comeback novel, released 19 years after ‘The Inheritance of Loss’ won the 2006 Man Booker Prize. Set in the 1990s and early 2000s, it may not be talking about Trump’s America, but somehow feels contemporary and relatable to a modern Indian’s life.
