Awards season has kicked off, and the Golden Globes have set the tone for what to expect from the red carpet in terms of style. A couple of things that stood out. For starters: black is safe but definitely not boring—whether it was Selena Gomez’s fringed Chanel look, Teyana Taylor’s sculpted Schiaparelli number or Ariana Grande in vintage Vivienne Westwood. Second: never underestimate the power of a fresh bob. From Ayo Edebiri’s old-Hollywood flip to Emma Stone’s more modern take with razor-sharp ends by hairstylist Mara Roszak (she’s been growing out the shaved head she sported in Bugonia), celebrities are ditching the hair extensions for all things short and hot. And finally, who doesn’t love a good naked-dress moment? Jennifer Lopez proved she does in vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer (with Sabyasachi jewellery!), while Jennifer Lawrence surprised the crowd in a floral gown from Givenchy by Sarah Burton. Not demure but very mindful of making an impact.
