In all the photos I’ve taken of myself in the past few months there is one common element. In nearly every photo, I’m wearing the same pair of Alaia fishnet flats. Sure, maybe it’s because they are incredibly comfortable and can take me through a busy day with ease, but most likely, it’s because of a peculiar tick where I tend to fixate on a particular item until I wear them out.
I’m the kind of person who can eat the same meal everyday until I get sick of it—then avoid it for a little while, only to come back obsessed again. Currently in the midst of drafting my second novel, I have the same playlist on loop. Sartorially too then, it would make sense that I find myself predisposed to certain items, palettes or moods. Over the summer and in the weeks after, I only wore shades of burgundy and merlot. For every event I had to attend for a while, I wore a waistcoat. And my love for twin sets has been well documented.
As we often do when confronted with our own odd habits, we start to wonder—is it just me? Or are others also the same?
Holding onto the hope that I’m not the only one, I reached out to three incredibly stylish women I know, if they have any current fashion obsessions. Are there any pieces, items or trends they are hyper-fixing on? Have they recently rediscovered older pieces that they now find themselves wearing ad nauseam?
This isn’t about repeating outfits (which all need to do more), it’s about wearing the same piece or look on repeat for weeks at a time.

Obsessed: Saint Laurent jacket

“To know me, is to know a black leather jacket,” laughs Patel. “I’ve always gravitated towards leather jackets, but recently I've become obsessed with the Saint Laurent leather jacket. This one feels like a second skin and I cannot take it off. It’s black, with a vintage look, and is very timeless, and I find that it pretty much works for everything—over cosy separates on a cold New York day or over a cocktail dress for an evening out.”

Obsessed: Hermès Cargo Birkin Bag
“This bag was on my wishlist, and from the moment I received it in August, it’s been the one I keep reaching for. I find myself planning outfits around it. The colour makes it a perfect companion for denim, but it pairs as well with tailored or even athletic inspired looks. I’ve worn it with sneakers, loafers and heels with equal ease. It’s a Birkin that feels relaxed, not precious, it has that effortless cool girl energy. And yes, to bust that ‘no Birkins at dinner’ rule, I’ve taken it to casual dinners, especially on vacation. I’m all for using beautiful things on repeat. To me, that’s modern luxury.”

Obsessed: Rings by Chiara Voliani, cuff by Ariana Boussard Reifel, and earrings by Georg Jensen

“I wear craft intuitively and every day, and it extends to both my clothes and my accessories. When I find pieces that hold both aesthetic beauty and the preservation of traditional craft, it feels like I’ve hit gold. My rings are by Italian designer Chiara Voliani, whose work revives the Tuscan art of galvanising silver. The cuff is by Ariana Boussard Reifel, a sculptor-turned jeweller, who moulds her pieces directly on her body giving them extraordinary fluidity. My earrings are from Georg Jensen, from an early series inspired by grapes. I love these pieces for their versatility and they sit beautifully with my silk kurtas, as well as everything else in my wardrobe.”
