Whether you're in Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru, here's our little black book for the fastest growing tile game in India

International Mahjong Dat

It’s green, it’s trending, and it’s all over your feed (nope, not matcha—try again). We’re talking about mahjong. The ancient Chinese tile game has captured friends’ groups around the world, and India too is fully on board. From card rooms in South Mumbai’s bougiest clubs to rooftops in Delhi, those damn tiles are everywhere.

Communities like Mumbai-based The Mahjong Network are keeping the momentum going by helping players connect with each other and organising events. And of course, fashion's having a moment with it too. Louis Vuitton has released a vanity trunk that screams “I play mahjong, but only in first class”, while this sleek black case from Prada can totally make you feel like that girl, provided you’re willing to drop £5,500. Lotus Suutra Luxe’s hot pink mahjong tile set that’s available in India? Need. Brightly coloured tile racks from Mahjong World? Also yes. A waterproof set so you can play in the pool like a glamorous 1960s housewife? Obviously.

August 1 (yes, today) is International Mahjong Day, so if you’ve been side-eyeing the hype, this is your excuse to get in the game. Scroll through our roundup of all the classes, open communities, and events that need to be on your radar.
