In the eternal physical book vs e-reader debate, the book wins most of the time. Tbh, brightly illustrated covers and pages you can turn were always going to win. After all, there’s only so much of your bury-me-in-books persona that you can convey with a little rectangular piece of plastic. There’s no inkling of the book title to offer to the curious passerby, no praise for the author on the book jacket with which to flex your literary taste. But here’s something you can’t do with an actual book—add a charm with your favourite trope on it (“enemies become lovers”) or plaster it with stickers inspired by fictional characters. (Never ever desecrate books with stickers if you’re above the age of eight.)
These fun accessories, though, are hard to find in India (sometimes the Kindle is hard to find too). Finding a cute e-reader sleeve involves many nights of scrolling and at least one failed attempt where the case doesn’t fit your device. These new Kindle cases from PopSocket launched just last month aren’t available in India either. They come with a built-in MagSafe adapter to easily attach a PopSockets grip at the back, and a dragon dozing among stacks of books has caught my eye. Based on Reddit and Amazon reviews, I’m not the only one with this problem.
But we persisted. Here’s a list of accessories that will make your reading experience way more fun—and which will ship to your doorstep. The fact that your e-reader is black and white doesn’t have to mean you can’t add a pop of colour. Scroll for our picks.
PS: This might be the most fun I’ve had researching a story.
