Our reality today is stranger than fiction. Every new day brings a harsher reminder of a truth we have always known. In moments like these, even fiction starts to feel close to reality. Uncomfortably, but it does. Probably that’s what makes The Avengers: Doomsday trailer, which dropped yesterday, hit differently. It straight up opens with a disaster—a devastating multiversal incursion. Think Earth-616’s Avengers, the Fantastic Four’s retro-futuristic world, and Fox’s X-Men all colliding on the same battlefield against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr) a, God-like antagonist. It’s probably the biggest crossover since Endgame and the fans are going to lap it up come December.

Beyond the spectacle, the trailer’s final moments resonate the most today and urge us to hold on to the words of Thor: “Everything they sacrifice will be for nothing if we don’t stand together.” The line that follows carries even greater weight: “We are going to need a miracle.”

To hope and miracles!
