For Jully Patel, rest doesn’t wait till the weekend

For the New York-based fashion and lifestyle creator, switching off means good food, shared rituals, indulgent skincare routines, and deep sleep in a tundra-like room

Jully Patel wind down

After a day of creating fashion-forward content, filming brand collaborations, and keeping pace with New York’s always-on energy, Jully Patel is intentional about how she winds down. The NYC-based fashion and lifestyle content creator is known for her personal style and culture-oriented storytelling on Instagram—one day she’s attending the world premiere of F1: The Movie, on another she’s taking you through a clothing store in Ibiza and pondering what it means for fashion designers abroad to use Indian embroidery. Patel treats her evenings as sacred, built around shared rituals with her husband, thoughtful meals, indulgent skincare routines, and habits that help her creative mind switch off. Here’s how Patel logs off, slows down, and sets herself up for deep rest.

What’s the first thing you do the moment you log off from work?

I wash my face and start my skincare ritual. Something about washing your face, having all the makeup removed from the day, unclogging your pores, and applying a nice, thick moisturiser to your skin is a luxury and a treat.

What does a typical evening look like for you?

Food is always on my mind, and evenings are for my husband. We don’t wait for the weekend to enjoy—we wait for evenings. After work, it’s about figuring out the perfect meal. In New York, that often means going out to eat or ordering in, but on weekdays we do try to keep our meals healthy.

After dinner, we shower before getting into bed and unwind with a good show. Getting into bed—showered, brushed, skincare done—is the best feeling ever. The last 10 minutes are either reading a few pages of whatever book we’re on or doing a little pre-bed scroll. We get our workouts done in the morning before work, so it’s out of the way, which means evenings are truly just for unwinding and spending time with each other.

What does your shower or bath routine look like?

My shower routine always includes a good body scrub and body wash. Right now, I’m using the Geranium Leaf Exfoliating Body Scrub from Aesop. For body wash, I rotate between the Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser and the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil.

Shampoo and conditioner rotate between Kérastase, Oribe, and Biolage. I’ve always heard it’s important not to let your hair get used to one shampoo, and I’ve lived by that rule. During warmer months, I try to end the last 30 seconds of my shower with cold water.

My bath game is serious. I take a bath once a week with L’Occitane bath bubbles and a bath fizzy. Sometimes I add Dr Teal’s Epsom salt to relax my muscles. There’s always a candle and a movie involved. Post-shower, I apply lotion while my skin is still slightly damp—I never fully pat dry. It makes such a difference for hydrated, soft skin.

What products are you using in your PM skincare routine?

My PM routine starts with the Elemis Cleansing Balm to remove makeup—I go through tubs of this. For face wash, it’s either the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser or Peach & Lily. I use Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Exfoliant with a cotton pad. I rotate moisturisers a lot, but my current favourites are Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream and Caudalíe Premier Cru The Rich Cream.

For serums, I use the Caudalíe Vinoperfect Serum, and for under-eyes the Vinoperfect Eye Cream. I’m very much a Caudalíe girl right now. Once a week, I do a collagen sheet mask and a clay mask. La Prairie sent me their Platinum Rare Haute Mask, and that’s been a very luxurious addition.

Do you have any self-care rituals or stress-reducing tricks?

I always start with a good five- to 10-minute stretch at night, followed by telling myself that tomorrow is going to be a great day. It puts me to sleep in an excited mood and helps release all the stress from the day, so I can actually rest. As a creative, my brain is always on— especially at night—so I really have to relax it or I’ll be up for hours.

Do you listen to music, meditate, journal, or do anything else to relax?

I have a Hatch machine, and I genuinely can’t live without it. I put on the rain sound at night, and I’m out. I also have a tea—usually chamomile or hibiscus—which helps me wind down. Right before bed, I drink a glass of cold water to cool my body down. It pairs perfectly with my cool pillow and a tundra-like room. Seventy degrees is my optimal temperature, and in winter I like the window slightly cracked open.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed?

I tell myself that tomorrow is going to be a great day. I visualise the next morning—coffee, checking my agenda, meetings, filming, eating my favourite foods, taking in the sun, working out. Ending the day like that gives me the best sleep, and good sleep is everything for your body.
