Somewhere between childhood champis and hectic hairstyling, Rohit Saraf became an Ayurveda believer

The internet’s favourite boy talks rituals, scalp-first haircare, and the Kama Ayurveda products that have earned permanent shelf space in his routine

The internet (read: Instagram algorithm) has a funny way of making old things feel new again. The same generation that once rolled its eyes at a Sunday morning champi now spends weekends romanticising hair oiling on Instagram. The shelf that was once reserved for overnight miracle serums and 10-step routines is slowly making room for ingredients our grandmothers could probably identify blindfolded. And somewhere between ‘glass hair’ and ‘clean beauty’ trends, we’ve collectively rediscovered something surprisingly simple: rituals.

Perhaps that’s why Kama Ayurveda feels especially relevant right now. At a time when everyone wants to slow down—not just in life but also in the way they care for themselves—the brand has quietly stayed rooted in what it’s always believed. That beauty isn’t about chasing overnight transformations. It’s about consistency. Thoughtful formulations. And giving age-old Ayurvedic wisdom a place in modern routines without making it feel intimidating.

It’s also why Rohit Saraf feels like an unexpectedly perfect fit for the brand. Spend five minutes looking the actor up and you’ll know he’s become something of the internet’s comfort person. The easy smile, the effortless charm, the boy-next-door energy—it’s made him one of Gen Z’s most loved actors. But beyond the polished campaigns and perfectly styled frames is someone whose approach to self-care is refreshingly uncomplicated. No elaborate routines. No endless product shelves. Just a handful of rituals he actually believes in.

And, as it turns out, one of them begins exactly where many of ours did: With a bottle of hair oil.

The ritual he spent years running away from

Ask anyone what beauty ritual defined their childhood, and chances are they’ll tell you about forced hair oiling on a weekend. The negotiation. The complaints. The desperate attempts to escape before someone called your name. Saraf laughs because he was exactly that child.

“It has to be the weekly hair oiling ritual,” he says. “As a kid, I used to run away from it because it felt like such a chore.”

Yet somewhere between growing up, constant styling, hectic schedules, and learning what your hair actually needs, that dreaded ritual starts making a lot more sense. “Now it’s become one of my favourite self-care rituals. Once a week, I make it a point to slow down and massage my scalp with Kama Ayurveda’s Bringaras Scalp & Hair Oil. It’s a simple ritual, but it helps nourish and balance my scalp while leaving my hair feeling stronger and healthier. Looking back, I completely understand why it was something my mum insisted on.”

Why Ayurveda is having a moment again

“Rather than chasing quick fixes, Gen Zs are investing in rituals and products that support long-term health and wellbeing,” Saraf explains. “That’s one of the reasons Ayurveda is seeing such a strong resurgence today. Its holistic approach is rooted in prevention and consistency rather than instant results, and really connects with a generation that’s seeking authenticity, transparency and lasting impact.”

That philosophy is also what drew him to Kama Ayurveda. “What really resonated with me about Kama Ayurveda is that it’s rooted in authentic Ayurvedic wisdom while embracing modern science,” he says. “The brand isn’t trying to offer a quick fix or an overnight transformation. Instead, it focuses on addressing the root cause of a concern and creating solutions that deliver results over time.”

The actor also spills how even he had a misconception about Ayurveda prior to this collaboration. “Like many people, I used to associate Ayurveda with DIY hair and skincare recipes or home remedies,” he admits. “It was only after I started working with Kama Ayurveda that I realised it’s so much more than that. It’s rooted in time-tested formulations and a deep understanding of holistic wellness while also embracing modern science.”

If we could raid Rohit Saraf’s vanity, here’s what we’d probably find

His work demands a lot from his hair. There’s constant heat styling, long hours on set, back-to-back travel, and countless touch-ups between takes. So, naturally, his routine isn’t built around chasing glossy hair for a day; it’s about making sure it can withstand everything that’s thrown at it.

The first product that made the cut? The Bringaras Densifying & Fortifying Scalp Concentrate. “Within just a few weeks of using it, I noticed a visible reduction in hair fall, and my hair felt stronger, healthier, and noticeably more voluminous,” he says. What won him over even more was how little effort it demanded. No sticky residue. No heavy feeling. No elaborate routine to build your day around. “What I like most is how lightweight it is. It absorbs quickly into the scalp without leaving any residue or weighing my hair down, which makes it incredibly easy to use every day. It fits so effortlessly into my routine that it’s earned a permanent place on my haircare shelf.” As for the real results? Kama Ayurveda’s tests revealed that the scalp concentrate resulted in 69% reduced hair fall and 21,000 new hair growth in five months of usage!

Then there’s the product that rarely leaves his side. The Bringaras Smoothing Hair Serum has become, in Rohit’s words, a “complete non-negotiable”. Which makes sense when you realise just how often his hair is exposed to hot tools. “My hair goes through a lot with regular heat styling, so I really appreciate that it protects my hair from heat, tames frizz, and adds a healthy, natural-looking shine without weighing it down.”

And maybe that’s what Kama Ayurveda has always understood best. Great products don’t ask for attention. They simply become part of your everyday, until one day you realise you can’t imagine your routine without them.

The rituals adult Saraf obsesses over

“My routine is actually pretty simple, and I think that’s what helps me stay consistent,” he says. Hair comes first, unsurprisingly. “I also believe healthy skin and hair start from within,” he adds. “Along with a balanced diet, I make sure I meet my daily protein intake and supplement where needed with nutrients like Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12 and Omega-3. For me, it’s always been about taking a holistic approach to wellness rather than chasing quick fixes.”

There are, however, a couple of secret rituals that even his biggest fans might not know about. One of them happens before almost every shoot. “I always ask my makeup artist, Imtiaz, to do a kansa wand facial massage because it helps depuff my face and instantly makes me feel more refreshed before I step in front of the camera. It’s become my little pre-shoot ritual, and honestly, it’s one of those things I genuinely look forward to. It’s incredibly relaxing and definitely my guilty pleasure.”

Rohit Saraf’s relationship with Kama Ayurveda isn’t about discovering a miracle ingredient or overhauling his entire routine overnight. It’s about returning to rituals he once dismissed, understanding why they lasted for generations, and finding products that make those rituals feel effortless in today’s fast-paced world.

It’s fitting, then, that his favourite products from the Bringaras range aren’t the ones promising instant transformation. They’re the ones that ask you to slow down. To pay attention to your roots before your lengths. To think of haircare as something you build consistently rather than something you fix reactively. Because if there’s one thing this conversation makes clear, it’s that great hair isn’t the result of one really good wash day. It’s the result of showing up for it, week after week.

And maybe that’s why, somewhere between old childhood champis and current vanity van essentials, Rohit Saraf has become the newest believer in Kama Ayurveda’s oldest philosophy: the best rituals are the ones you keep coming back to.
