The 78th annual Emmy Awards were last night (or this morning, depending on where you are in the world) and while there were a lot of great dresses and suits, the look we couldn’t stop thinking about belonged to Matty Matheson.
Matheson, who plays Neil Fak in The Bear and is an executive producer of the show, arrived on the red carpet jumping, goofing around, and generally having a better time than anyone else, in a brown suit with black lapels and a cummerbund. On our favourite Fak brother’s feet? Black ballet flats adorned with little bows, worn with white ribbed socks—a combination similar to the one he wore at the Critics Choice Awards back in 2024.
The actor, chef, and co-founder of the clothing brand Rosa Rugosa even wore a pair of black lace-up ballet flats with bright red socks at the FX and Vanity Fair pre-Emmy party at Chateau Marmont the night before. “A funky little shoe is my biggest move,” Matheson told WSJ in an interview in 2024. Two years later, the habit has clearly stuck.
Matheson, of course, isn’t the first man to make the ballet flat part of his footwear rotation. Over the last couple of years, the silhouette has become a staple in a number of stylish men’s wardrobes. Harry Styles, for one, has been especially committed. This year alone, Styles has worn mint-green, bow-adorned ballet slippers from Dior to the Grammys, a classic black Chanel pair at the Brits Awards, Miu Miu’s Elan flats at the airport, and another black pair for his latest appearance SNL. Colman Domingo, meanwhile, has worn bow-adorned styles from Valentino on several occasions, while Bad Bunny was spotted sporting flats with criss-cross straps from Dries Van Noten at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere last year. Marc Jacobs practically lives in the style—wearing them often enough that they’ve become part of his uniform. In latest Instagram OOTD, he’s seen rocking a Balenciaga pair.
