India Design ID 2026 called it: Mushroom lamps are back

At this year’s design fair, the once-whimsical silhouette re-emerged in stone, paper, and art-led interpretations that feel anything but kitsch

Spotted at India Design ID 2026, the mushroom lamp is back, and it is moodier, bolder, and ready for your living room. Across booths and installations, the familiar cap-and-stem silhouette kept resurfacing, but this time in a far more elevated avatar. Gone are the plastic, candy-coloured versions that Mad Men brought back, which went on to dominate Pinterest and TikTok in 2023. In their place stood a grownup, evolved version that leaned into texture, materiality, and mood. Tactile. Sculptural. Slightly dramatic.

At Abner, the Cherry and Coral lamps transform the familiar cap and stem into solid marble statements. The result feels architectural and collectible, like a design object first and a lamp second. Lume Haus keeps things lighter with its Naro and papier-mâché mushrooms that look as though they have bloomed mid-air, casting a soft, flattering glow that works especially well in cosy corners. Then there is the Bhoomi:ja wall sconce by Shailesh Rajput, where sculpted mushrooms appear to grow straight out of the wall. Rustic, unexpected, and guaranteed to start conversations. Parman Designs offers a more sculptural take, pushing the silhouette into moodier, art-led territory.

So, if you are ready to let your lighting do a little more than just switch on and off, consider this your cue. Below, mushroom lamps you can bring home, because fungi are officially having a design moment.
