Office wear that takes the boredom out of the boardroom

Our workwear edit will make Monday mornings a breeze

Every night before bed, my sister and I stand before our open wardrobes, whining in unison: “What should I wear to work tomorrow?” This dreaded question lingers like a spectre, robbing us of precious sleep. Some days, I resort to my trusty anime graphic tee and flared leggings—functional but hardly boardroom-ready. Given all the flack my fellow Gen Z-ites have been getting about what we wear to the office, I’ve realised that perhaps it’s time to find a more elevated everyday uniform. More office siren number one à la Gisele Bündchen in The Devil Wears Prada, less Portia from The White Lotus.

For starters, I looked to the runway, where the spring/summer 2025 shows were filled with #corpcore references. Bottega Veneta offered oversized blazers and slouchy trousers that pooled at the ankles, echoing childhood dress-up play. The same exaggerated proportions were visible at Stella McCartney and Issey Miyake—think power-shoulder blazers and roomy trousers with giant pockets. At the recent Lakmé Fashion Week, designer duo Shantnu & Nikhil also leaned into the ’80s-style blazer trend, while David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore’s first runway show for Satya Paul featured ties worn with tailored shorts and printed shirts. Talk about bringing the fun to the meeting. Clearly, even designers are thinking about what we wear to work. And they’re suggesting things that are just slightly more playful than your regular white-shirt-and-trouser combination.

Below, we’ve curated a set of essentials that ensure dressing for work no longer has to be a daily nightmare.

Blazers for the last-minute meeting

Sharp cuts, structured shoulders, and double-breasted designs—the blazer of today is all about power. Look to Simone Ashley and wear yours with a pair of jeans or even, dare we say, sweatpants, if you don’t want to do a full suit. And the best part? It can take you from a sudden meeting to an after-hours party.

Just because your office is drenched in sterile white light doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to blend in. Bring some joy through doodles and playful prints that disrupt the monotony of corporate wear. Like Bode's embroidered shirt; its motifs are reminiscent of the 1984 Olympics scarf. How fun! Or opt for the web-like design from the Sandro Paris x Louise Bourgeois collection for a surrealist edge. Meanwhile, Shop Drawn’s resort-ready prints immediately bring the vacay mood to your desk.

Hardy denim for Dementor-like days

Originally crafted for miners, jeans were designed to withstand labour-intensive environments. Sound familiar? The daily commute—crowded trains, endless escalators, and the constant hustle—is a test of endurance in itself, so who’s to say they’re not fit for office wear? On days when you want an easy, relaxed fit, opt for a pair of dark-wash, rivet-free wide-leg jeans. According to a WGSN report, the popularity of this closet staple has increased by 27.1 per cent this season. The flowing silhouette offers breathability and ease of movement because no one wants their outfit clinging to them through a long day. Pair it with a structured blouse for contrast, throw on a sleek belt, and get back to the corporate goldmine.

Snoafers to help you ace that coffee run

We’ve all been there—reaching for stylish shoes for work, only to swap them out for trusty sneakers by midday. But what if you didn’t have to choose? Enter snoafers—a seamless fusion of sneaker comfort and loafer elegance. The trend started with New Balance’s 1906L, a pair that bridged the gap between formal and casual. If you’re after something more streamlined, look to a chunky pair from Tod’s or the Speed loafer from Hoka. They’ve got polish and put-together appeal, and come complete with that signature penny loafer squeak.

Cosy cardigans for chilly cubicles

A surefire way to survive the frigid temperatures of your workspace? The humble cardigan. But instead of a ratty number that you leave behind on your office chair for months, choose something that elevates your fit. The secret? Play with textures—chunky cable-knit, feel-good fleece, or ribbed and bouclé finishes—to add depth and dimension to your look.

Business on the top, comfy on the bottom

A tailored dress can be a lifesaver on days when mixing and matching feels impossible. Take the shirt dress, for example—it’s all business on top and pure comfort below, making it a wardrobe staple. Dress yours up with sleek flats or keep it casual with sneakers; its versatility knows no bounds.
