Fashion and lifestyle content creator Shubhra Vaity isn’t known for maximalism. Whether she’s partnering with brands like Skims and Tory Burch or putting together outfits from the same handful of wardrobe staples, she’s built her career on the idea that less can do more. We caught up with the Mumbai gal on the tube in London—where she’s taking a much overdue break—to find out what actually earns a place in her suitcase.
You’re in London right now, living out of a suitcase for a month. What’s earned a permanent spot in your bag—and what never makes the cut?
I’m a big believer in carrying only what I know I’ll actually use. In my Miu Miu Matelassé handbag, you’ll always find my Burberry hand fan, which I picked up on a brand trip; a Nuuk portable fan, because it’s been surprisingly hot here; my wired earphones; a Chanel Les Beiges makeup pouch with the essentials; hand sanitiser; and The Whole Truth protein bar.
What are the capsule-wardrobe pieces doing the heavy lifting for you on the road right now?
Definitely my black stilettos. I thought I’d wear them occasionally, but they’ve ended up going everywhere with me. My go-to outfit has been a black top with white Bermuda shorts and a thin belt, and when it gets cooler I throw on a tan leather jacket I found while vintage shopping in Brick Lane. It’s one of those outfits that works for almost anything.

What’s one beauty product you didn’t pack but wish you had right now?
Honestly, none. I’m actually very minimal when it comes to skincare and makeup while travelling. I’ve learnt that I don’t need to carry my entire routine with me—I prefer keeping it simple and sticking to the essentials. Right now, that’s my Dior Forever Skin Perfect foundation stick, Chanel blush stick, Make Up For Ever lip liner, Chanel lipstick that’s a gorgeous purple in the tube but is surprisingly wearable on the lips, my favourite Nars lip oil, a Rare Beauty blush brush, and a Chanel hand cream. Travelling is when I appreciate a pared-down routine the most. I’d rather have a few products I genuinely use and love than carry things I probably won’t reach for.
Have your friends put you on to any spots you’d never have found on your own?
One thing I’ve really loved discovering through friends is the vintage shopping scene in London. There are some really cute vintage and thrift stores around the city that you wouldn’t necessarily find unless someone showed them to you. I think Brick Lane is a must-do, especially if it’s your first time in London.
For food, my favourite discovery has to be Carlotta. The carpaccio with balsamic and the lobster and truffle fettuccine were incredible, and they have a fantastic wine list. It feels like you’ve walked into this wonderfully theatrical, maximalist Italian-American movie set. And for a more relaxed evening, Nancy’s is such a great spot for drinks with your girls. The vibes are amazing—think red velvet, animal print, old-school glamour, cocktails, DJs, and a dance floor. I think that’s the beauty of exploring London through people who know the city: you find these little corners that feel much more personal than the usual tourist recommendations.
How are you unwinding once this trip is over?
What I love about taking time away is the feeling I return with. I go back feeling fulfilled, refreshed, and genuinely excited to get back to work. I’ve noticed that when I step away for a while, I come back with so much more motivation and creative energy. I usually end up getting a month’s worth of work done in around 10 days!
