Your summer wardrobe needs more stripes

That’s the bottom line

Has your Monday morning uniform of a crisp button-down and blue denim started to feel a little too predictable? Swap the jeans for a pair of bright striped pants. Cool and comfortable, they’re an easy way to switch up your look and add interest to even the most basic of outfits. Although, we’re talking more op-art, less circus clown.

Lately, stripes have been spotted everywhere. One of Dua Lipa’s recent airport looks featured a striped quarter-zip alongside a gargantuan Chanel tote featuring blue, red, and white stripes. Elsewhere, Julia Roberts was seen in a striped polo with a pair of straight-leg jeans, while Hailey Bieber took a blue striped top for a spin earlier this summer. Safe to say, the pattern is a celeb favourite this season.

A Breton tee or a pinstripe shirt is the obvious way to sport the print. A little less expected? Taking the motif below the waist. Whether worn with a simple tank top, an oversized shirt, or even a graphic tee, striped trousers have a way of making staples feel less boring. There’s also the matter of vertical stripes creating the illusion of additional length.

And there’s a silhouette for every mood too. Balloon shapes make the pattern feel even more cheerful, straight-leg pairs are an easy swap for your usual linen pants, while wide-leg versions look more polished. Wear them with any solid T-shirt in your wardrobe for a casual day out, add a crisp white button-down and ballet flats for work, or, if you feel like going all out, lean into the playfulness by throwing another print into the mix.
