It’s the return of retail

Say goodbye to click and buy, because a slew of new store openings is making it much more tempting to try and buy. In New Delhi, Studio Medium, of the hands-free sari fame, has opened its first flagship store complete with floating textile installations, fabric wall art, and an in-house design lab for customers to get a glimpse at the brand’s processes. French crystal company, Baccarat has also officially landed in the capital, and trust us, it’s not holding back on the sparkle. From dazzling Indian royals since 1886 to now lighting up The Chanakya, the crystal maison brings centuries of craftsmanship to Delhi this month. At the heart of it all? The majestic Zénith 84-light chandelier making its India debut. It’s opulent, it’s iconic, and it’s giving Lutyens-meets-Louvre energy.

In Mumbai, we attended two store openings on the same day this week. The first was Payal Singhal’s new space in Bandra, which houses the designer’s signature boho bridal offerings as well as accessories in calico-inspired floral prints—think sipper cups, potli bags, neckties, and more. The second was a more maximalist homage to craft by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The fashion design duo’s luxurious new boutique is the stuff of gilded dreams with its gold-leaf-embellished walls, towering floor mirrors and a colossal central chandelier. Just the setting if you’re here to shop for a Big Fat Indian Wedding.—Butool Jamal

Surreal stories and royal reinventions

Two artists—one from Milan and other from Bhubaneswar—unite for a new exhibition, Kindred Dichotomies, at Black Cube Gallery. Inspired by the faded Kanika Palace in Odisha, Sudhanshu Sutar’s surreal paintings contain a Dali-meets-maharajah air. Italian artist Andre Zucchi, meanwhile, puts blue-faced humans amidst statuesque Roman busts and a jewel-toned palette. Together, they create a visual conversation spanning eras that is as playful as profound.—Sheya Kurian

Kindred Dichotomies is on display at Black Cube Gallery, Delhi, till April 27

Stack up, light up

Forget Build-A-Bear. The millennial version is ‘build a lamp’. Spanish porcelain brand Lladro has opened up personalisation experiences for its Firefly lighting collection in India. Their new range of adorable cordless LED lamps allows you to mix and match its round porcelain components, so you can take your pick before you place your order with the brand’s factory in Valencia. Choose from delicious macaron colours, neutral black and white, or luxe metallics, and stack them up to create your own unique design. Your Pinterest dream house is just a light away.—Butool Jamal
