If you’ve been keeping up with the spring/summer 2027 shows, you may have noticed the sheer number of bra-and-skirt looks on the runways. We’ve seen the outfit combo pop up repeatedly, from Sandy Liang in New York and Lovebirds in London to Prada and Fendi in Milan—so much so that it’s being hailed as the uniform of the season.
In fact, part-Indian baddie Tyla rocked up to the MTV Video Music Awards last night in a snakeskin bra-and-skirt look straight from the Mowalola runway from last week. Also in attendance and part of the bra bandwagon were JoJo (who wore a crystal-adorned version with a skirt) and Ciara Miller (in a leather look with lace-up pants).
Meanwhile, Lisa, Madonna, and Sabrina Carpenter—who were part of the entertainment for the evening—all wore hot pants verging on briefs and bodysuits for their sets. In fact, Charli XCX had actual hot-pink knickers peeking out from beneath her top during her performance.
It all makes sense from a practical point of view. With most of us experiencing simmering heatwaves through the summer, who wouldn’t want to prance around in as little as possible? As the unofficial underwear editor of The Nod, I am in full support of the trend. Paris Fashion Week begins today, and I bet we’re going to see more lingerie as going-out clothes on the runways.
