There was a time when picking your makeup was simple. Then came colour analysis, and suddenly everyone was a Deep Autumn or a Soft Summer, replacing entire makeup bags because a stranger on TikTok decided their undertone had been wrong for thirty years. Then came Kibbe (a body-type styling system), Clean Girl, Mob Wife, Office Siren... At this point, buying a lipstick requires a full personality audit.
The latest factor weighing in on your makeup choices? Your moon sign—not your sun sign. What’s the difference, you ask? Your sun sign is who you present to the world. Your moon sign is the part underneath—how you process emotion, what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel like you. Which, arguably, is exactly what good makeup should do.
To test the theory, we spoke to Kavita Bhagat, a psychic, tarot reader, and astrologer, about the beauty looks each moon sign is naturally drawn to, and the ones that will never quite land, no matter how viral they get.
Step one: Find your moon sign. Unlike your sun sign, which only needs your birthday, your moon sign requires your date of birth, exact time of birth, and city of birth. Plug that into any birth chart calculator and it’ll spit out an answer in seconds. Once you’ve done that, scroll ahead to see Bhagat’s advice on the makeup look you should be trying next.
The Aries moon is bold and not sorry about it

“Aries moon people are emotional, courageous, independent, and always ready to take action. Their makeup should reflect that bold energy,” says Bhagat. Aries doesn’t do quiet. She’s the first one to say yes, the first to book the flight, the first to try the trend before anyone’s confirmed it actually works.
The look: Sun-kissed bronzed skin, flushed cheeks, strong brushed-up brows, glossy lips with a sharp flick of liner. She looks like she’s come from Pilates, a beach holiday, and a campaign shoot—in that order—this morning.
The Taurus moon is expensive-looking

Taurus doesn’t chase trends—she invests. So, when it comes to makeup, the goal isn’t transformation; it’s looking like she woke up like this. “Taurus moon people are emotionally stable and incredibly grounded. They’re comfortable in who they are, which is why they don’t feel the need to overdo anything,” says Bhagat.
The look: Creamy skin, soft sculpting, brown mascara, rosy nude lips, and champagne highlighter. Bonus: a fragrance that smells like something you can’t quite place but desperately want.
The Gemini moon is the beauty test subject

Chrome lids today, berry blush tomorrow, blue mascara by next week. Gemini was never going to commit to one signature look—beauty is a hobby, not an identity. “Gemini moons are curious and intellectual. They’re always ready to try something new and see whether it works for them,” says Bhagat.
The look: Colourful eyeliner, blush draping, glossy lids, playful accents, and whatever’s trending this week.
The Cancer moon moves with the tide

“Cancer is ruled by the moon itself. These people are deeply emotional and also elegant. Their makeup may change with their mood, just like the tides, but it remains classic,” explains Bhagat. Some days it’s bare skin and soft pink cheeks. Other days, full old Hollywood. Cancer’s look shifts because the emotions underneath it do too.
The look: Dewy skin, rosy cheeks, romantic lashes, soft shimmer, and a classic red lip when the moment calls for it.
The Leo moon always finds the spotlight

Leo doesn’t wear a statement look; Leo is the statement. Any excuse to glow, and she’s taking it. “Leo Moon people naturally express themselves with confidence and creativity. They aren’t afraid to be seen, and their beauty should reflect that warmth, radiance, and self-expression,” says Bhagat.
The look: Golden skin, sculpted cheeks, luminous highlighter, defined eyes—essentially one bold feature, no more. It’s like she goes to a wedding and accidently becomes the main event.
The Virgo moon is incredibly precise

“Virgo moons are practical, analytical, and incredibly detail-oriented. Everything has to be neat, precise, and intentional,” says Bhagat. That means no messy liner. No patchy blush. No “good enough”. Everything blended, everything balanced, everything exactly where it belongs. Of course, her makeup bag is organised to perfection.
The look: Flawless base, highlighted eyes, feathered brows, satin skin, and nude lips.
The Libra moon knows the power of a blending brush

“Libras are diplomats. They love harmony, balance, and artistic refinement. Every colour should complement the next,” says Bhagat. Libra isn’t chasing loud; she’s chasing beautiful. Nothing clashes, nothing competes, everything’s in conversation with everything else.
The look: Peachy blush that matches the lip, soft complementary eye tones, fresh luminous skin, and seamlessly blended colour.
The Scorpio moon isn’t afraid of a smoky eye

No-makeup makeup was never going to be a Scorpio thing. Where’s the mystery in that? Magnetic, intense, a little intimidating. Exactly as planned. “The moon is considered debilitated in Scorpio, making these people deeply emotional and constantly drawn to transformation,” says Bhagat.
The look: Smoky eyes, rich liner, defined lips, velvet skin, and dramatic lashes.
The Sagittarius moon is ready in five minutes flat
“Sagittarius moons need freedom. Their makeup has to be quick, effortless, and allow them to keep moving,” says Bhagat. An hour-long routine isn’t happening; she’d rather book a flight than blend a contour. Effortless suits her because it has to.
The look: Light concealer, sun-kissed blush, lip balm, natural freckles, mascara—that's it.
The Capricorn moon has a signature look

“Capricorn moons are disciplined, pragmatic, and have very fixed ideas about how they want to present themselves to the world,” says Bhagat. They don’t follow trends; they already have a signature that they’ve perfected over time.
The look: Structured brows, sculpted cheeks, neutral tones, satin dewy skin, and brown eyeliner.
The Aquarius moon will surprise you with her liner skills

Aquarius isn’t trying to match anyone. Her choices are considered, a little experimental, and always slightly left of expected. “This sign is intellectually driven. Before embracing a beauty trend, they want to understand why it works and whether it genuinely suits them,” says Bhagat.
The look: Graphic liner, metallic accents, an unexpected colour, and fresh skin.
The Pisces moon loves a bit of gloss

“Pisces moons are emotional, intuitive, and deeply spiritual. They’re naturally drawn to harmonious colours inspired by water and fluidity,” says Bhagat. While everyone else is getting ready for reality, Pisces is getting ready for a dream sequence. Soft, glowing, nothing harsh; like a mermaid who discovered luxury beauty.
The look: Pearlescent skin, glossy lids, sea-glass blues, lavender shimmer, and blurred lips.
