If you can’t find Namrata Purohit in the Pilates studio, check the stables

The Pilates powerhouse and newly minted KYN co-founder on keeping her skincare simple, finding stillness after a day of training, and why consistency is the real wellness essential

Namrata Purohit Wind Down

Namrata Purohit has made a career out of helping people move better. Over the years, her Pilates clientele has included names such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, and Sara Ali Khan. Now, with the launch of KYN, her athleisure label co-founded with entrepreneur Kanushee Garg, she’s taking that understanding of the body beyond the studio and into the wardrobe. But when her own workday ends, the pace changes. There’s time with her mother, an evening spent riding horses and being around her dogs, a warm home-cooked meal, and a bedtime routine that puts consistency ahead of excess.

You’re up before most of us have had our first coffee. When does the Namrata workday finally clock off?

The time I get home really depends on the day, as my schedule can be a bit unpredictable. However, I now try and wrap up by 4 pm since I start my day quite early. Once I get home, I like to spend some time with my mom, then I get ready to go horse riding. My evenings are dedicated to my four-legged companions—my dogs and horses. I come home for dinner by about 7 pm and then start to relax and get ready for bed.

Let’s talk about the PM skincare shelf. What are you reaching for when the day is finally yours?

I like to keep my nighttime skincare fairly simple and consistent: cleanse, hydrate, moisturise. Some of the products I like are the Green Tea Seed Serum and Black Tea Youth Enhancing Ampoule from Innisfree, followed by the Nuxe Prodigieuse Boost multi-correction gel cream. I also use the Nuxe Prodigieuse Boost multi-correction eye gel-balm. A few times a week, I use the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask before bed, and I also like to use the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry a couple of times a week. I also love the Nuxe Prodigieuse Boost night recovery oil-balm. I think skincare is much more about consistency than having a shelf full of products. And of course, hydration, sleep and nutrition make a huge difference to how your skin looks.

Your hair puts up with a lot of workouts. What’s your idea of a little post-training TLC?

I do like giving my hair some extra care, particularly because I’m constantly working out and my hair goes through a lot. If it feels dry, I’ll use a nourishing treatment or a little oil before washing it. I’m also a fan of a silk pillowcase—it’s a small thing, but I find it helps reduce friction and keeps my hair looking a little smoother in the morning.

LED masks, sleep gadgets, a cupboard full of supplements—or are you more of a keep-it-simple kind of person?

Honestly, I’m more focused on the fundamentals. Good nutrition, quality and enough sleep, hydration and movement are all important components of my life. I do take supplements, sometimes, that complement my overall routine, like collagen, but I remember that supplements cannot compensate for an unhealthy lifestyle.

What’s your favourite way to wash the day off?

A shower at the end of the day is one of my favourite ways to switch off. After training or being out all day, I love that feeling of washing everything off and getting into comfortable clothes. I keep the routine simple—a good body wash, moisturise afterwards if my skin feels dry, and then I’m ready to relax.

If your mom is cooking, what’s the one thing you hope is waiting at the dinner table?

I love my warm home-cooked meals, so it’s tough to pick just one thing. But I really enjoy soups and I love the different variations of dal khichdi my mom makes.

When you’re not teaching, training or building KYN, how do you quieten things down?

I put my phone away, I spend time with my family, I do some breath work, and then call it a night.

You start your day early. What time does the world go quiet for you?

I’m usually in bed by 10 or 10:15 pm.

What’s the last little thing you do before you turn in?

I like to keep everything ready for the next morning, go to sleep feeling relaxed and also ready for a new day. But the absolute last thing I do before I sleep is probably kiss and hug my dog good night.

Your work is all about consistency and discipline. Is that also your secret to a good night’s sleep?

Consistency. The body loves routines. Try to sleep and wake up at roughly the same time, get enough movement and day light through the day, avoid bringing work into the bedroom if possible, and don’t forget the basics. Basics like a cool, dark room, putting your phone away, and doing some breath work can go a long way.
