Of course Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore a soap-bar-sized emerald to the Met Gala

If the Met Gala is the Olympics of red-carpet fashion, then a record was definitely broken at the event. Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas attended the Costume Institute fundraiser wearing a polka-dotted Balmain gown—the razor-sharp lines and hat a nod to the evening’s dress code, ‘Tailored for You’. But the star of her look was a singular piece of jewellery that turned heads across the room: the ‘Magnus Emerald’ necklace by Bulgari. This was no ordinary Colombian emerald necklace. The gemstone, roughly the size of a bar of soap, was a staggering 241.06 carats, making it the largest faceted gemstones ever mounted by the house.

Suspended from a refined setting of diamonds and platinum, the emerald seemed to glow from within, its green hue catching the light. Lucia Silvestri, Bulgari’s creative director of jewellery, spoke to The Nod about the months of ambition and complexity behind the creation. She said, “I wanted a cut that was large but not heavy, an elegant cut-out that would enhance the gem’s unique ‘liquid’ quality, minimal inclusions, and vivid glow. This emerald truly stands as a testament to perfection, and the design was crafted to honour every nuance of its raw beauty.” In a behind-the-scenes video released by the brand, Chopra Jonas described the necklace as fitting “for a strong woman”.

This was a rare sneak peek at the brand’s Polychroma high jewellery collection, which will officially release later this month. The line also includes a necklace anchored by a rare, 123.35-carat royal blue sugarloaf sapphire, which fellow Bulgari spokesperson Anne Hathaway previewed on the Met Gala steps along with her Carolina Herrera shirt and beaded skirt.
