Everything about the newest drops at Design ni Dukaan, architect Veeram Shah’s design studio has a playful edge to it. Among the three new functional yet fun objects, is a mirror with a (literal) twist. Named Firki, after a spinning top, it twists to reveal a patchwork textile back designed by artist Saloni Jhaveri. The mirror is flanked by brushed-gold hooks, rods, and accoutrements to organise your day’s shirts and bags, and rest your makeup kit. The same blue, white, and red patchwork fabric makes it to the back of the self-standing Lattu swing as well. Ahmedabad’s Design ni Dukaan is known for their modern iterations of the humble jhoola, and this one’s teakwood and brass accents are balanced with a light woven cane seat. Rounding off this edit is the Sikki lounge chair, which as the name suggests, spotlights the Sikki craft of Bihar, in which they use golden grass from the region’s wetlands in a special coiling technique. While the craft is normally used to create smaller objects like floormats, baskets, and boxes, this chair was created in collaboration with a young graduating design intern and a women-led artisan cluster led by Radha Kumari. —Ruhi Gilder

An oven taking on the great Indian kitchen

I have seen one too many videos of how to correctly reheat bread (or my mom’s dhokla). Wrap a damp paper towel around it and heat in short 10- to 15-second bursts. Or place a cup of water on the side. Or well, save yourself the hassle and accept the hard, rubbery slice as fate. But this may change soon. Bengaluru-based Ember Cookware seems to have studied this and other Indian kitchen perils before launching its Marvel oven, which combines heat with MistFlow™ steam technology for even cooking and moisture retention. What do classical Greek sculpture and a Rajasthani wildlife safari have in common? They’re both inspirations for Misho’s third ready-to-wear collection, ‘Volume Three’. Focused on occasionwear, it features sculpted corsets and shoulder pieces, draped skirts, bandi-style vests with gold-plated buttons, and the brand’s first-ever sari. Uninspiring and clunky dumbbells that usually stay hidden have been reimagined as sculptural pieces that complement your living room when you aren’t doing any heavy lifting with it. For founders Swapnil and Sakshi Gupta, the idea was to make squeezing in a 10-minute workout easier than bringing out the weights from another room. If you ask me, the Ova Loop—a circular form made of solid cast iron in a range of colours, available in both 3 kg and 5 kg—is my top pick. It is ideal for grip exercises and mobility training. Is this Fossil’s coolest watch yet?

There’s plenty to like about Fossil’s racing-culture-inspired Machine X1 ME3283 before you even get to the Richard Mille comparisons online. The 42 mm automatic watch has a tonneau-shaped rose-gold-tone steel case featuring Fossil’s signature knurled texture, a fully skeletonised dial under sapphire crystal and exhibition back case that puts its impressive 24-jewel Japanese movement on show, and a 41-hour power reserve. The sporty timepiece is water-resistant to 5 ATM (50 metres) and comes with a black silicone strap, while the wider X1 line-up includes a silver-tone steel case, a black version with gold-tone details, and a punchy all-blue option.
