Name: Arvid Lindblad

Age: 18

Profession: Formula 1 racer

Why you should know him

At 18, Arvid Lindblad is not just the youngest driver on the 2026 Formula One grid, he is also the only one carrying Indian representation into the sport at this level right now. Born to an Indian mother and a Swedish father, the British-born racer speaks with pride about bringing his Indian heritage to Formula One. This year he steps in as a rookie with Racing Bulls, lining up against the very drivers whose posters once hung on his bedroom walls, including Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Five years ago, as a karting kid, he told Lando Norris he would see him on the grid in five years. Norris is now the reigning world champion. And Lindblad has arrived right on time.

And he’s not easing into the spotlight quietly. His chemistry and meme-worthy moments with teammate Liam Lawson have already made him internet’s favourite, while his run at Red Bull Moto Jam in India, where he drove Sebastian Vettel’s championship-winning RB8 in front of thousands, felt like a statement. He started racing at three (!) and grew up watching this sport from the outside. Now he is on the grid, helmet on, part of its future.

On being the youngest on the grid

“I don’t feel any pressure. I have wanted to be in Formula One since I was five, so it’s exciting for me that the dream is coming true. I’m used to being the young kid on the block. It’s something I take in my stride. In the end, I’m here for myself and all I’m focused on is trying to do the best I can.”

Racing alongside Lewis Hamilton

“Obviously, it feels special. Growing up, I have always looked up to him. I felt a cool connection to him considering his rookie year was the year I was born. He was the only one of colour, he was winning, and he was doing very well when I was just getting into the sport. So, to share the track with him will be thrilling.”

Life in the middle of Formula One’s media spotlight

“I grew up seeing the media being very present in the sport, so it has never really bothered me (until now) because I knew it is a part of the job. We’ll see. I mean, maybe after my first official race, when I experience the media frenzy at the track, it might get overwhelming. But it is what it is. You have to find a way to deal with it.”

His early dynamic with teammate Liam Lawson

“I remember we first got to know each other at the Red Bull Junior programme. We have a good vibe together. Obviously, when we’re on track, we both want to do well, and want to beat each other, but we’ve a good rapport off track. It’s a nice balance.”

When the helmet comes off

“On days when I am not doing anything, I try to spend time with my close ones, especially friends. The years are busy and social life is not always easy, so we try and enjoy our time together. I am interested in skateboarding and fashion, mainly streetwear, and like to occupy myself with it.”
