The new affordable luxury bags are all under 50k

Welcome to the era of made in India accessories

They’re sleek, simple and logo-less. And instead of forcing you to take out an EMI, they’re (slightly) easier on the pocket, while retaining all the qualities of a status luxury buy. We're talking about the newest crop of India-made bags that are flooding our feeds. Take Lovebirds, the label by husband-wife duo Gursi Singh and Amrita Khanna. Their latest collection included understated carryalls in Italian Nappa leather, and was launched with a campaign fronted by Sobhita Dhulipala in November last year. Another Indian brand with wink-wink appeal is Gautam Sinha’s Nappa Dori. Known for its minimalist leather accessories, it recently expanded with a new outpost in Hyderabad. The reason: accessories are big business. According to global market research firm Data Bridge, the luxury handbag market is set to hit $42 billion by 2029. But, the power of the minimalist purse goes beyond numbers. An exit from the popular logomania styles of the early aughts, the anonymity of these homegrown bags makes them the perfect plus-one for any setting. Plus, they outlast seasonal trends, focus on details like modern shapes, jewellery-like hardware accents, and check out for under ₹50,000.

Here, our favourite styles to wear forever.

Launched in 2012, Lovebirds has a cult following among some of the best-dressed fashion girls. The Delhi-based brand’s Luca bag has a super-soft, gathered construction and features a detachable and adjustable strap for versatility. Extra points for the glossy, brownie-batter colour.
