A free-for-all art crawl at Jaipur Art Week

Starting January 27, the Pink City will be home to vibrant art, contemporary installations, workshops, and walkthroughs. You can witness Ankit Dey introduce The Moment Before Infinity, an immersive environment of shadow, disrupted motion, and shifting light; attend a shayari recital by Wamiq Saifi; or visit the large-scale digital installation by James Johnson-Perkins titled ‘Jaipur Galore, After Sawai Jai Singh’, which reimagines the city as a living cosmology. Another highlight at the Jaipur Art Week is Silent Plains, a miniature painting installation by Pascal Ungerer in collaboration with Riyaz Uddin, a seventh-generation Indian miniature painter. The exhibition uses a range of visual languages to highlight liminal environments where urban and rural conditions overlap. You can also gain insight into how contemporary artistic thinking unfolds through process, collaboration, and experimentation at one of India’s leading sculpture studios and art foundry, Studio Sukriti. —Tanvi Parekh

Sea sirens make a splash

This season, Gaurav Gupta is trading solid ground for the hypnotic pull of the sea. In his spring/summer 2026 India couture womenswear collection titled ‘Sirens Rising’, surfaces shimmer, ripple, and look alive when in motion thanks his signature glitch shading—an optical effect where colour refracts and realigns with movement. Think motifs created with layered zari, crystals, and bugle beads that echo fish scales and marine textures on silhouettes that are fluid yet architectural. Garments featuring cascading tassels took weeks of work, with individual techniques clocking over 50 hours of hand embroidery. It’s couture as current—mesmerising, meticulous, and unmistakably GG.

Hottest new openings in jewellery, fashion and design

The current crop of new openings is less about shopping and more about experience. There’s Forevermark’s sprawling 5,000 sq ft space in Mumbai—it’s the largest flagship for diamond major De Beers Group. You can wander the two floors, spend time browsing their collection of everyday styles, and also check out some mega stones, including a memorable 11-carat diamond (should you want to splurge on a casual weekday). Equally opulent is Falguni Shane Peacock’s latest outlet in Jio World Plaza. Designed by Gauri Khan, the interiors are warm and polished, with details like a seven-foot peacock urn and multiple chandeliers—the perfect backdrop to the brand’s luxe feather- and rhinestone-covered bridal and eveningwear looks. Finally, designer duo Shivan & Narresh’s new outlet in Goa is a deep dive into the brand’s ever-expanding universe. Their joyful, tropical-art-inspired prints cover everything from swimwear to home decor, accessories, and even the walls of the new outlet. Perfect if you want to bring a bit of that Goa feeling back home with you. —Butool Jamal

A Bombay Art Deco-inspired jewels pop up in Hyderabad

Arundhati De-Sheth’s new collection takes cues from the designer’s childhood wanderings through Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Churchgate, and Fort, where typography on old façades, distinctive balcony grills, and terrazzo floors left a permanent imprint. The line, titled ‘Decodent’, distils the glamour of 1920s Art Deco into strikingly modern pieces with crisp geometry, graphic symmetry, and unexpected diamond cuts that play with light and structure. For two days only, the collection is travelling to Hyderabad for a special show at Almari. —Chloe Chou

If you haven’t noticed, crochet is having a moment—on couches, in cafes and classrooms... It’s everywhere you look. What was once a solitary pursuit has also looped its way into a full-blown community ritual, and you can witness the crochet takeover at The Steps Bandra’s ongoing festival this Saturday. Take your hook and yarn—doesn’t matter if you are a chronic crocheter or have recently taken to it. The idea is to stitch, chat, and crochet together under an open sky. And with Chain Reaction—a community that loves to crochet—around, there’s no dearth of inspiration. —Tanvi Parekh

Crochet Community Meet-Up will take place at the St Stephens steps in Bandra, Mumbai, on January 17 between 5 pm and 7:30 pm. The meet-up is open to all

Conscious shoppers come together

For culture vultures, Jaipur is unavoidable this month. If you’re stopping by the Pink City for some book readings or art watching, add PDKF’s Artisan Collective to your itinerary. The three-day festival gives artisans from the area, and from around the country, a platform to engage directly with customers. So, you can shop from the kantha specialists at  Itu Upadhyay, or meet Antara Dutt, a jamdani specialist, and maybe make your own block-printed masterpiece with Studio Berõ. The calendar also includes musical performances, talks and more, enough to make it a wonderful way to spend your weekend. —Butool Jamal

The chilli oil that can make anything taste better

general item ramano4.webp

Lao Gan Ma may have its cult following the world over, but Delhi-based Raman Okram has become a local legend of sorts in food circles across India. In 2020, Okram quietly became a chilli-crisp phenomenon when he started putting out his OG chilli oil for sale. Over the years, his popularity on Instagram (where he shares a thousand ways to use chilli oil) has only grown. Now, you can bring home a variety of his flavourful sauce, which, as testimonials attest, can uplift everything from homemade gobi mattar to runny breakfast eggs, along with a selection of premium butters (truffle and garlic miso have our vote) that are gift-boxed and available to order via his website. —Megha Mahindru
