If you’ve ever wondered what naked or quasi-naked celebrities on the red carpet are wearing underneath their skimpy little outfits—Is it a nude thong? Are they going commando?—we have the answer.

On Oscars night, everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow in custom Armani Privé and Devon Lee Carlson in her butt-baring Saint Laurent number to Olandria in custom Pajtim Raci and Bella Hadid, who wore a low-waist Prada skirt set, had one thing in common. Yes, they were semi-naked dressers in white, but they were also all wearing invisible underwear from Stringys. Celebrities wouldn’t be caught dead in the same outfit as another person on the red carpet, but apparently the same thong is fair game.

Even if you wear seamless underwear, you know it tends to roll up or bunch. Obviously, you can’t have that on the red carpet where everyone loves zooming in on the details. And obviously, the underwear situation has to be strategic. What’s fantastic about this pair is that you quite literally cannot see it.

Founded by best friends Olivia Karina and Elvira Tröger in 2023, Stringys set out to create underwear that wouldn’t show through fitted clothing. The idea was simple: women should still be able to wear knickers—as opposed to going commando—no matter the outfit. Crafted out of 75 per cent nylon and 25 per cent spandex, the thong comes in four colours—buttercream beige, sunkissed sand, caramel clay, and rich espresso brown—and sizes ranging from XXS to 2XL. The “invisible” straps are made from a durable, recyclable, and biodegradable material that decomposes in three to five years.

The brand popped up on Shark Tank in May 2025, where it sparked a bidding war. Kylie Jenner is a fan, as is Hailey Bieber. It’s basically the ideal solution for when you wanna wear mesh pants, a dress with a sky-high slit or hip cutouts, or even a slinky white gown.
