It just doesn’t end with the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni drama
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s new movie, It Ends With Us, came out on August 9. But the BTS tea, steeped in creative and marketing differences, is all anyone’s talking about.
The major issue is the film's promotion. The plot centres around domestic abuse, and many have called Lively’s ‘rom-com’ marketing strategy (she’s one of the producers)—floral looks, a Betty Buzz crossover, and a lot of content featuring her husband, Ryan Reynolds (who isn’t in the film)—‘tone deaf’.
Baldoni (also the director of the film) is doing press—solo—and didn’t pose for pictures alongside the cast at the film's New York premiere. His promo activities have focused more on the theme of domestic abuse; he has also consistently tagged No More, an anti-domestic abuse nonprofit that was the film’s charitable partner, on his Instagram posts.
Speculation is rife that the rest of the cast doesn’t get along with Baldoni either, with some reports alleging he created an unpleasant atmosphere on set. And IG detectives have pointed out that most of the cast don’t even follow Baldoni back.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Baldoni even suggested that Lively should helm a sequel: “I think Blake Lively's ready to direct. That's what I think.”
